Bragança Polytechnic University will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its Digital Library on 23 September with an event dedicated to Open Science, research, innovation, and knowledge sharing.
Created to bring together, preserve, and provide access to the scientific output of the academic community, the Digital Library has contributed over the past two decades to making research produced at UPB accessible both within and beyond the University.
The anniversary programme begins at 09:30 at the Eng. Alcínio Miguel Auditorium, ESTiG-UPB, with an opening session led by the Rector of UPB, Orlando Rodrigues, and the Mayor of Bragança, Isabel Ferreira.
The morning continues with different perspectives on the current challenges of Open Science. Eloy Rodrigues, Director of Documentation Services at the University of Minho, will address the relationship between innovation and sustainability in Open Science, followed by João Mendes Moreira, Director of the Scientific Knowledge Area at FCCN – Foundation for Science and Technology, with a presentation dedicated to the connection between repositories, data, and knowledge in the context of Open Science in Portugal.
The 20-year history of the UPB Digital Library will be revisited by Clarisse Pais, Coordinator of the Documentation and Libraries Functional Unit, in a session dedicated to the platform’s development and its role in supporting scientific information. The programme will also include the signing of Bragança Polytechnic University’s Open Science Policy.
The event will conclude with the round table «Around Science and Innovation», moderated by the Rector of UPB, Orlando Rodrigues, bringing together representatives from the University’s research units and the business community. Participants include Ana Isabel Pereira (CeDRI), Maria Filomena Barreiro (CIMO), Tiago Barbosa (LiveWell), Paula Odete Fernandes (UNIAG), Cristina Mesquita (CITeD), and Paulo Piloto (GICoS), as well as representatives from companies in the region.
